Dung Beatle

So Nina brought me this cup. Harry & Nina were playing in the sandbox. She was talking about some bug/bugs and was showing me the cup. I figured it was an earwig or rollie pollie, so I was looking. The sand started moving. I thought, Oh, must be a worm in there...then I saw the black body. In my mind I said "YIKES!!"...or something like that. :) But had to keep my cool. Nina was so very excited, that's when I finally figured out what she was saying, "POOP BUG!! Just like the one in my BOOK!! (she of course has a bug book with pictures and such that she loves as a bedtime story, I don't get it, it's just Nina)". "MAMA, it's a DUNG BEATLE, he eats insect POOP!".
Oh boy. Harry was quite excited too. This was the biggest beatle that I have ever seen, and he was not too happy. Harry then informs me that he was crawling on him that is when he gave him to Nina. Great, just great. That make me feel even better.
So, here you have it, our "Dung Beatle", not really, but that is what he is called around our house. :)

Here is where their true colors shine bright! :) They were trying to decide it's name. Harry said it was "Lukie", and Nina insisted that it was "Puh-Lukie!". So the fight began, Harry ended it by walking back to the sand box saying his chosen name for the bug under his breath...and so it goes.

"Puh-Lukie!!!"

"Lukie!!!!!!!!!!!#%*#!!!", "Puh-Lukie!" (if you look at her lips you can see her 'p' coming out for her name)

...and that's how we ended, as it usually goes...

As I said earlier, Harry exited to the sandbox, while Nina sat looking longingly at her bug set up high until daddy came home so they could show him. Nina so badly wanted to pet it. Pet it?!? And she can't stand ants or spiders. Nina.

So you know. When daddy came home, we did the capture and release program here at the Lewis house. He is now residing somewhere on the other side of our ravine.

Such a familiar chain of events! I'm not so sure how well I would cope being presented with a huge beetle like that!!
